Members of Massachusetts Medical Society

It is my pleasure to introduce you to ThomasPartners and to our philosophy; our financial planning and investment services; and the special fee arrangements we offer members of the Massachusetts Medical Society.

Whether in the planning or portfolio execution process, it is very important to recognize that investment markets do not lend themselves to precise and certain predictions; they are volatile and, at times, irrational. One need only recall the broad market breakdown that occurred in 2008; no amount of good diversification protected investors from bad volatility. Effective financial plans and truly sound investment strategies, therefore, have to prepare investors for what might happen; not just try to predict what will happen.

ThomasPartners dedication to prepare our clients for all possible market environments, not just those we favor, is the distinguishing characteristic of our firm. Like others, we are careful stock pickers and we employ broad asset class allocation in an effort to exploit growth. Like others, we employ industry sector and style diversification in an effort to mitigate risk. But, unlike others, we also create and nurture significant, recurring, and growing portfolio dividend income streams; dividend income streams that continue to deliver positive returns and financial security during periods when stock-picking, asset allocation, and diversification do not.

The many merits of a growing dividend income stream can not be adequately conveyed in this letter; our website provides more comprehensive evidence and data. But, there is value in emphasizing that the process of saving and investing cash, today, in order to be able to distribute more cash, tomorrow, is greatly enhanced if dividends are a significant part of the planning and investment mix. Plans and strategies that rely primarily on capital gains are unreliable and, thus, too risky. Plans and strategies that rely primarily on bonds generally deliver too-little growth.

Regarding our specific services, ThomasPartners offers comprehensive financial planning to individuals, medical groups, and corporations. These services incorporate all aspects of the clients needs: college planning, retirement plans; transition planning; risk/reward analyses; estate planning; etc. These are fee-only services and Massachusetts Medical Society members enjoy a discounted fee arrangement.

ThomasPartners also offers investment advisory and portfolio management services, again on a fee-only basis and, again, with reduced fees to Massachusetts Medical Society members. Depending on the clients specific needs, our services generally are delivered in separately-managed accounts that are custodied at an independent brokerage firm. As appropriate, these services embrace our dividend-driven philosophy, but may also allocate funds to fixed income securities, ETFs and other independent managers that deliver distinctive and successful strategies.

Lastly, whether or not you feel a need for professional financial planning or investment management services, we would be pleased to be a source of occasional advice, if needed. We welcome your questions and are pleased to offer advice within the areas of our expertise; and, if not within those areas, we would hope to be able to refer you to someone who could provide the needed help.

We would be pleased to send you some materials about our firm, our services, and our investment philosophy. We would also enjoy a personal meeting, if that is of interest to you.  Please feel free to contact us through this website or by calling 888-431-1430.

 Sincerely,

Gregory N. Thomas, Chairman/CEO
